School & Potty Training Part 2

It's been a week since Bryan has started school. He has gotten much better, according to his teacher. He still cries when I drop him off but has calms down and enjoys himself in school. I pick him up and he seems very much happier. That's a bit of a relief. At least I know he's enjoying himself in school.

And not only is he going to school, Bryan is also going to school without diapers. That's how far we've gotten with the potty training. He wears the diapers only when he's napping or at night when he's asleep. Only for number 1 though, He still uses the diapers for number 2. Which means Mommy still has to clean him up once a day. Coincidentally, he prefers to go when he has his diapers on. I'm still not sure how to get him totally off diapers though.

One step at a time I guess. Well, Mommy's managed to get some studying done while Bryan is at school. And it's back to work for Mommy tomorrow...

First Day of School

This week, Bryan starts pre-nursery. It's his very first time in a class where Mommy is no longer around with him. It's only for a few hours but Mommy's the one that's stressed out about it.

The first day went well, he went into class and joined his classmates and teachers with no problem. They played some playdough and then went to the playground, had some snacks, played some more and then it was time to go home. He seemed pretty happy that day. He could tell us that he had biscuits and milo for snacks.

The second day, it wasn't so quiet. I think he realised that Mommy wasn't around and kept looking for me. And he got upset when he saw me hanging around. He wanted Mommy to join in. I think next week, I'm going to just leave him there and sit outside. He's always been sociable and not shy so I think once he starts to enjoy himself, he'll be fine. I hope...

Room with a View

On Friday, my parents-in-law stayed in Sentosa. It was a gift to them by their friends for their 40th wedding anniversary. They brought Bryan along that day. He apparently went to the Underwater World and had a splashing great time in the pool at the hotel. After work I drove down to pick him up. I have to say that the view from the room was quite stunning. I haven't seen a gorgeous view of the beach like that in a few years. Very soothing.

I haven't actually spent much time on Sentosa in a long time. It has changed quite a bit with lots of development happening there. I think the finished Sentosa would really be quite spectaculer. So far there's already a new musical fountain show happening and there is already a monorail connecting the main island of Singapore to Sentosa.

In the News

The World Wildlife Fund UK ranked the world's largest luxury groups on their social and environmental performance in a report, "Deeper Luxury". And for all the profit that they nett, the top ranked brands only score 60+/100. L'Oreal, Hermes and LVMH earned a C+, while Coach scored a C, Tiffany & Co D+ and Bulgari and Tods got a dismal F.

It's quite shocking to see how much these companies value the environment and the people they impact. Like 'Blood Diamonds'. Suddenly possessing these luxury goods aren't so important. Be kind to both the environment and your wallet. Don't buy these luxury goods without thinking if it's worth it.

Ready for School

Bryan starts pre-nursery on the 24th of January. And I think Mommy is more anxious than he is. I've bought his uniform and shoes and socks. I don't think he needs books or a school bag yet. I think. Does he? He's only two and a half years old.

I worry if he is ready. Can I just leave him? Will he be ok? Does he know enough? He can count to ten and he knows a few alphabets. Is that enough? Should I start teaching him some chinese? Can he understand his teachers? How about diapers? Can he manage without it? It's only for a few hours but is he ready to tell the teacher when he needs to go?

Oh boy... now Mommy feels like she is the one attending pre-nursery.

Random Photo

Looking back at all the photos taken during Christmas, this one was my favourite. Katelyn, my neice was dressed up like a fairy princess for Christmas, meanwhile, Bryan is looking all grown-up in his rugby shirt. Awww...

Water Play

Last year, in Pat's Schoolhouse, once in a while, the school would organise a waterplay party session for Bryan and his whole class. It included a couple of pools, a waterslide and lots and lots of boats, containers to play with. He really loved it.

So last Christmas, Daddy bought him a waterpool. When it's blown up, it is actually 2 pools in one, with a small waterslide from one pool into the next. We brought it out yesterday and blew it up for him. Now Bryan can have his very own waterplay sessions. Or even pool parties! Maybe that's what I'll do for his birthday in June.

An Apple A Day

I currently use a Macbook which I'm really happy with. The startup is very fast and the desktop has lots of convenient functions in it. The software is usually very stable and doesn't give error messages. The graphic and multimedia programs are excellent. Making slideshows and even movies is a clinch.

However, I think there is a problem with the Magsafe power adapter. I had it replaced once and it stopped working after a few months. This time, my warranty had just ran out. I went down to the Apple service centre in Wheelock Place and was told I had to call up Apple to confirm that I could replace it for free. So I went home and did that. Then the second time I went down, it was closed for a function.

The third time I went down, I managed to see someone after about almost 45 minutes waiting. And they told me it would take 2 working days to replace. I had to come back to collect it. That was a week ago. Granted it's the new year and there was a break. Still... I called them up a couple of days ago and was told that it would come in the next two days. I'm still waiting for them to call.

Going by what they told be before, does that mean it would take another week? It's just to replace the adapter. They don't even have to fix the old one. Now my Macbook battery life is down to about 30%. Grrr... I'm going to complain to Apple, they should change service providers.

Unresolutions 2008

1. Have another baby. My mother-in-law has been dropping hints about Bryan needing some company and how the age gap is just perfect.

2. Find a better paying job. Government service is great for the masses but I need a new car.

3. Find more time in a day. I need to find the time to go to the gym at least once a week. The last time I went after 6 months of inertia, I only managed half my usual workout and I'm still aching. AND I need time to read up for my Graduate Diploma Course.

4. Maybe if I spent less time on Facebook, I'd find the time to do other stuff...

5. Like blog more often.

6. Get a new car, like one of those hybrid ones that don't use as much petrol. But also see point 2.

7. Wean Bryan completely off diapers and his milk bottle. That should save me some money for another baby's diapers and milk. Also see point 1.
