After the whole 'Crashgate' fiasco, I was looking forward to an exciting weekend. This is the 2nd Singapore GP. But the first one that I'll be seated in the grandstands. And on the actual raceday too! Thanks to my hubbie.
We went by MRT so we didn't have to get caught in traffic. We stopped by 'New York, New York' to have dinner. Then walked into the F1 area and then to our grandstand. It was at the Marina Bay area, the floating platform grandstand. The view from there was gorgeous. We could see the Singapore skyline lit up beautifully. This also happened to be the area where the cars would drive by in front of us and then turn underneath the grandstand. So they wouldn't be driving too fast.
There were also screens put up in front so we could see the action on live tv and watch the cars when they drive by. It's really something else. Up on the grandstands, the noise wasn't so bad and we could see everything that was going on. Way better than on street level.
People were cheering as some of the cars drove by. Flashes were going off. The sound of the cars vibrated the air and there were helicopters flying up overhead. The atmosphere was vibrant. I can see why people would pay so much to come to GP events. We didn't stay for the whole race though. We thought we'd leave early so as not to get lost in the crowd.
But I'd go again next year if given the chance and another grandstand seat.
